{"id":31,"date":"2014-01-24T22:41:15","date_gmt":"2014-01-24T22:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jamesmdupont.com\/blog\/?p=31"},"modified":"2014-01-24T22:43:40","modified_gmt":"2014-01-24T22:43:40","slug":"dear-diary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jamesmdupont.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/24\/dear-diary\/","title":{"rendered":"Dear Diary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve run a few marathons. \u00a0I&#8217;ve done a million pushups, and twice as many sit-ups. \u00a0I&#8217;ve hiked a few mountains. \u00a0I joined the Marine Corps, and thrived. \u00a0I went to Pensacola and flew navy airplanes, and even went to war. \u00a0I ate shit out of a plastic bag, and had a navy doc shoot me up with Anthrax vaccine. \u00a0I&#8217;ve seen the enemy, and they have seen me.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had the flu, and had it coming out both ends. \u00a0I&#8217;ve had broken bones, had surgery, a broken heart, and watched my dad slowly die.<\/p>\n<p>I did calculus and advanced physics, aeronautical engineering, stuff that I still don&#8217;t fully understand.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had conversations with irrational women, but are there any other kind? \u00a0Boom!<\/p>\n<p>But nothing, nothing, is harder than being a parent. \u00a0It kicks my ass and warms my heart. \u00a0I laugh and cry, and wonder how in the hell those three little creatures have come from my loins? \u00a0I want to hug them, and then sneak up behind them, and strangle them. \u00a0I can&#8217;t imagine my life without them, but when I do &#8230; I smile. \u00a0Bliss!<\/p>\n<p>I want to be a better man, and husband, and especialy father, but oftentimes I fall short of these expectations. \u00a0I try, and won&#8217;t give up.<\/p>\n<p>Mostly, I&#8217;m there for them, screaming for them to clean up their goddamn bedrooms. \u00a0To pick up after themselves. \u00a0Seriously. \u00a0What&#8217;s so hard about picking up your underwear &#8230; Gabi? \u00a0Yeah, you! \u00a0I love you, now turn off that damn computer and go to bed. \u00a0And laugh all you want Matthew, Chloe, ha-freaking-ha! \u00a0What with the Legos all over the place and sneaking rolos from the candy jar, running around the store like freaking lunatics. \u00a0Does this look like an insane asylum to you?
